Two children were among five people who died in road accidents over the weekend. A four-year-old girl, who was named yesterday as Sinead McDonagh, died when the car in which she was a passenger hit a cement pillar in Clondalkin, Dublin, at 9.15 p.m. on Friday. She was from Cloverhill Road, Clondalkin. Also on Friday, an 11-year-old boy, David Breeney, Moneen, Glanworth, Co Cork, died and his mother was seriously injured in a collision between two cars at Terramount, Rathcormac, Co Cork.

A German man and an Irish woman died on Saturday night in a two-car collision in Co Leitrim. Mr Patrick Sturmer (19) and Ms Shirley Regan (32), Keadue, Co Roscommon, were the drivers of the two cars involved in the crash at about 11 p.m. which took place on the Carrick-on-Shannon-Drumshambo road. Early on Saturday morning, a motorcyclist died in a two-vehicle collision on the Headford road in Galway. Mr Gary Keady, in his early 20s, was from Castlepark, Galway city.
