FORMER WATERFORD Crystal workers who were made redundant when the company went into receivership in January have made a contribution of €20,000 to help cancer sufferers and their families.
The gesture, made to the Solas Project of the South Eastern Cancer Foundation (SECF), honours a commitment made by staff prior to the collapse of the company.
Walter Cullen, regional organiser with trade union, Unite, yesterday said: “The financial support we received from Waterford people, local businesses and organisations, as well as from across the trade union movement, was tremendous.
“It is from the Waterford Crystal Workers Support Fund that this donation is being made, as a gesture from the workers,” he said.
“A commitment made is one to be honoured, and once again the workers of Waterford Crystal and members of Unite have demonstrated their support for this worthy project, Waterford is, above all, a community,” he said.
