Gardaí have arrested over 200 motorists for suspected drink driving in the last 24 hours.
A garda spokesperson said that 207 arrests had been made between 10.30am yesterday and 10.30am today.
Yesterday, the garda announced that more than 60 arrests for suspected drink driving were made between midnight on Friday and 10.30am.
The Garda has been out in force carrying out breath tests at checkpoints around the country over the bank holiday weekend.
So far this year, 65 people have been killed on the State's roads, including five people who lost their lives in four separate road crashes in Co Donegal in a 24 hour period.
Gardaí have renewed their appeal to motorists to exercise care on the road, not to break the drink driving legislation and to show consideration for the safety of themselves and others.
The Road Safety Authority has also appealed to people not to drink and drive, urging those travelling across the country to take extra care on the roads.
"Weekends are high risk periods on our roads, but over bank holiday weekends those risks increase significantly," said Noel Brett, RSA.
"This bank holiday the RSA is supporting the enforcement activity of the gardai who will be conducting extensive mandatory alcohol testing checkpoints over the weekend.
"The message for drink drivers is that the chances of getting caught and losing your licence are high."
