A €20 million programme to support responsible use of alcohol has been announced by a drinks industry-backed charity.

MEAS (Mature Enjoyment of Alcohol in Society) said it has appointed two media groups to support its drinkaware.ie advertising programme.

The drinkaware programme, built around a website of the same name, commenced last November.

The interactive site enables people to assess whether the amount of alcohol they drink is at moderate or hazardous levels.

The campaign also features a poster with the slogan: "Know the one that's one too many."

MEAS said it would spend a minimum of €20 million on a new medium- to long-term programme to promote responsible drinking in Ireland. Its future campaigns will again be backed by the major drinks companies.
