There was good news on the jobs front today with the announcement of 200 new jobs at an American online retail company in Galway and 60 jobs at a technology company in north Dublin.
CSN Stores is to establish its Emea (Europe, Middle East and Africa) headquarters in Galway, creating 200 positions over the next 3 years in multilingual customer service, IT, localisation, finance, HR and sales & marketing functions.
The Galway offices will be opened in January in the Mervue Business Park.
The new positions, which are supported by the Government through IDA Ireland, will primarily provide CSN’s European customer base with voice and email-enabled support services.
Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív said CSN's decision to set up in Galway would enhance Ireland's profile as a leading location for Internet service companies in Europe.
"The company will be a significant employer in the West of Ireland hiring third level graduates in IT, software engineering, localisation, finance and multilingual customer support and will contribute to the further development and attractiveness of the Region as a location for additional investment," he said.
Meanwhile, Renishaw Ireland announced that it is to expand its operation in Swords with a new research and development plant.
The facility will design and make new medical instruments to treat a range of neurological diseases.
Tánaiste Mary Coughlan said the announcement was significant for the company's future in Ireland.
"This investment involves cutting-edge development and high-end manufacturing in a new area for the company and makes the Irish operation of greater strategic importance to the parent," she said.
The new jobs will include 17 research and development positions and 43 manufacturing posts, to be rolled out over the next three years.
The investment is being supportedby the IDA.
Geoff McFarland, Renishaw's group engineering director, said the emerging medical treatments sector was very important to the company.
"The Irish operation should be proud as this is an extremely promising sector for our company which is strategically important for our business," he said.
"And given the performance of the Irish operation we are confident of its future success."
Renishaw, a leading engineering technology company, has been in Ireland for 27 years. It specialises in making precision metrology and inspection equipment.
