Three people arrested after the death of a British student in Italy are to appear in court at a hearing that will decide if police can detain them.

Meredith Kercher (21), from London, was found dead at her apartment in Perugia, Italy, where she was spending a year during her European Studies degree. The coroner said she had been stabbed in the neck.

Her American flatmate, Amanda Knox, and Ms Knox's Italian boyfriend, Raffaelle Sollecito (24), and Lumumba "Patrick" Diya (38), originally from the Congo, were arrested on Tuesday.

They are being held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit manslaughter and to commit sexual violence.
