Customs officers said yesterday they had seized a consignment of fireworks worth around £30,000 and a lorry valued at £5,000 in Dundalk, Co Louth, last week. The seizure followed a two-week surveillance operation, the Revenue Commissioners said in a statement.
One man was questioned and released, and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The 300 cartons of Chinese fireworks were believed to be destined for Dublin street markets.
