Dublin Simon Community yesterday celebrated its 30th anniversary with a function at Trinity College Dublin where its first soup-kitchen was based. Dublin Simon was formed after the founder of Simon in the UK, Anton Wallich-Clifford, gave a talk at the Earlsfort Terrace campus of University College Dublin, attended by student Larry Masterson, who promoted the idea among other students in UCD and TCD. "The fact that Simon is still needed is no reason for celebration," said Dublin Simon's director, Mr Greg Maxwell. "Homeless is on the increase, our nightly team of soup-run volunteers are meeting more and more people on the streets."
