Gardaí in Limerick were last night searching the Rathbane area of Limerick city for two men believed to have been involved in the shooting of a 34-year-old man in a local park.
The incident took place at around 7.15 p.m. at John Carew Park in Rathbane. The man had been shot in the chest and was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital by ambulance. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The shooting may have been the result of a local dispute over drugs. The man is understood to have recently returned from Britain, where he was living. Gardaí from Roxboro Road Garda Station sealed off the scene and conducted searches in the area.
The shooting is the third in 10 days in the city. On Sunday a man was shot through the front window of a house in Ballinacurra Weston in the city. The previous Monday, a man was shot in the back outside a house at Lenihan Avenue.
