At least 35 people were feared drowned in the overflowing Ganges river in eastern India today when their crowded boat capsized, authorities said.
The boat was carrying about 100 people when it overturned in Samastipur district, about an hour by road northeast of the state capital of Patna, said district administrator Sashank Shekhar Singh.
Several districts of Bihar have been inundated by floods -- said to be the worst in memory in some areas -- caused by the annual monsoon rains, and millions have been made homeless or left stranded.
