The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) has published details of the commitments made by the three 3G licensees in the course of the 3G licence competition.
Third-generation mobile technology represents an evolution in mobile technology allowing the rapid transfer of data over the mobile phone.
3G services will enable firms to beam high-speed internet and video clips to mobile phones and wireless Internet, audio on demand and video conferencing.
In the course of the competition held in 2002 the successful applicants, Hutchison 3G (Ireland), O 2Communications and Vodafone (Ireland) made a series of voluntary offerings that were evaluated and inserted into their licences as binding commitments.
Earlier this month, ComReg found that Vodafone, O2 and Hutchison were not in breach of 3G licence obligations to launch a commercial service by January 1st, 2004.
The decision by ComReg means the companies will not have to pay the Exchequer tens of millions of euros in fines for failing to comply with strict penalty clauses in their 3G licences.
