Iarnrod Eireann today begins an eight-week £4.6 million track improvement scheme on the Dublin/Westport and Ballina railway line. A new 11.5 mile track will be laid between Roscommon and Athlone.
The company says that during this time trains will not operate between Roscommon and Athlone from mid-morning on Mondays until mid-day on Fridays. Some disruption may also occur on Saturdays. A substitute bus service will be provided between Roscommon and Athlone during this period.
The company advises that departure times at all stations in Mayo and Roscommon will be 20 minutes earlier than existing departure times. A revised timetable is available from all company stations on the route. A normal rail freight and Fastrack service will operate during this period.
