Planning permission has been granted for a €400 million development at an old Army barracks in Ballincollig, Co Cork.
The development will include 900 homes and a new centre for the town, on the western outskirts of Cork city.
It is the largest planning permission granted by Cork County council, and one of the largest commercial developments approved outside of Dublin.
The plan includes over 200,000 sq ft of retail space with a supermarket and hotel, and will create 3,000 jobs. The 90-acre site, formerly Murphy Barracks, was bought two years ago by the developers O'Flynn Construction for 41 million.
The planning permission follows the settlement of a High Court case between the Minister for Defence, O'Flynn Construction and Ballincollig Holdings, which had claimed to own interest in the leases on the property.
The barracks was one of six vacated by the Army and sold by the Minister for Defence as part of a rationalisation of the Defence Forces.
