The Department of Education last night announced a major overhaul in the way school secretarial and caretaking services are administered. The Department will take direct control of these services, currently overseen by the State training agency, FAS, through the community enterprise scheme.
The Minister for Education, Dr Woods, said schools would receive £46 million under the changeover. He said the move would eliminate "anomalies" in the system, ensuring schools received a fairer share of State funding.
The transfer of funds will be front-loaded with £32 million going to the Department in the next school year.
