A company director who had part of a leg amputated after he fell through a trapdoor in a Dublin pub is to be paid £530,000 and costs in settlement of his High Court action.
Mr John Noone, of Longtown, Sallins, Co Kildare, had sued Slatterys Ltd, trading as the Left Bank Bar, of Temple Bar, Dublin, and Guinness Group Ireland Ltd. Both defendants admitted liability and the action proceeded as an assessment of damages only. In his statement of claim, Mr Noone said he was entering the licensed premises on November 12th, 1997 when he fell 10 to 12 feet through an open trap-door and suffered a severe injury to his right ankle. When plaster was removed, in December 1997, an infection was discovered and in January 1998 it was decided to amputate below the knee.
