Delhi - At least 65 people were feared drowned after a boat capsized on the river Ganges in India's eastern state of Bihar, officials said yesterday.
"Sixty five people are missing and feared drowned," the director-general of police, Mr K.A. Jacob, said. "All of a sudden the boat was badly jerked by water currents and several people, mostly youths sitting on the edge of the boat, fell in the water," said Mr Kedar Yadav, a survivor.
Mr Jacob said 75 people were travelling in the boat, which capsized in mid-stream yesterday near Athmalgola, 80 km north-west of the state capital Patna. Ten swam to safety. Mr Jacob said three bodies were recovered.
