Hanoi - Some of the worst flooding in decades to hit central coastal Vietnam has killed at least 70 people and raised the spectre of grave food shortages, government officials and relief workers said.
"Water is still rising. The rains are very heavy," the Agriculture and Rural Development Minister, Mr Le Huy Ngo, said in an interview.
Mr John Geoghegan, head of a delegation for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Vietnam, said damage was extensive and an overseas appeal for $1-2 million in aid would soon be launched.
