Five people have died in road accidents since Friday in the Republic and three were fatally injured in the North.
Yesterday afternoon, a 36-yearold single man died when his car went out of control and overturned at Kilmacnally, Curragh Roe, Co Roscommon.
A Co Antrim man was fatally injured in the early hours of yesterday morning when he was struck by a car as he walked along the Dublin Road, Drogheda, Co Louth. Mr Ciaran Devine (25), of Donene Crescent, Toomebridge, Co Antrim, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, but died a short time later.
On Saturday morning, a man was killed near Virginia, Co Cavan, on the main Virginia to Kells road, when a car and lorry collided. The driver of the car, Mr Aidan Smith (28), from Drumcalpin, Turlough, Co Cavan, was fatally injured. He was married with two children.
A pedestrian, Mr Barry Fitzgerald (17), Bagenalstown, Co Carlow, was killed early Saturday morning as he walked on the main Kilkenny to Carlow Road, He was struck by an articulated lorry near Paulstown, Co Kilkenny. The gardai are appealing for witnesses.
On Friday evening, Mr Moses Graham McConnell (64), of Lifford, Co Donegal, was killed in a two-car collision at Drumucklagh, Raphoe, Co Donegal.
In the North, Mr Paul Brendan McAlinden (19), from Ballymartin, Kilkeel, and Ms Cyanna McManus (16), from Corrigs Avenue, Newcastle, Co Down, were killed when their car struck a wall at Annalong Road, Kilkeel, Co Down, at about 1.30 a.m. on Saturday.
Mr William Spence (81), from Gilnahirk Crescent, Belfast, died in hospital on Saturday from injuries he received on Friday when his car was involved in a two-car collision at Glenavy Road, Moira, Co Antrim.
