Some 80,000 tickets for Eminem's concert in Slane on September 17th sold out in just over an hour yesterday.

Thousands of fans, including some State examination students, queued up for tickets around the country ahead of the 8am sale.

Justin Green, spokesman for promoters MCD, said the early start time was aimed at facilitating exam students.

"People were seen coming in wearing school uniforms and then going on to do their exams. There were also some parents getting tickets for their kids who were busy studying."

The Co Meath concert is the last fixture on Eminem's Anger Management European tour.

Mr Green said there was no chance of a second date as Slane only held one show a year, and Eminem was due to fly back to the US directly after the event.

Eminem, who has been described by Slane Castle owner Lord Mount Charles as a challenging and vigorous "verbal wordsmith", will be joined on stage at Slane by his equally controversial protege 50 Cent. Otherwise known as Marshall Bruce Mathers III, Eminem previously performed at Punchestown in 2003 before 100,000 fans in two concerts.

Accused in some quarters of homophobic, misogynistic and excessively violent lyrics, the rapper has recently toned down his X-rated image through charity performances with artists like Sir Elton John.
