Two women will highlight the plight of thousands of homeless people today as they begin a 92-mile walk across Ireland.
With just the clothes on their back, Joan McNevin and Paddy Pender will walk from Roscommon to Dublin with no money, food, water or shelter.
The pair will rely on the good nature of residents along the route to provide meals and a bed each night. While raising awareness to the cause, the woman will also be collecting funds for the Capuchin Day Centre for homeless people in Dublin.
The pair set off from Strokestown, with their journey taking them through a number of towns and villages including Longford, Multyfarnan, Kinnegad and Maynooth. They will arrive back in the capital on Wednesday.
It is the forth year the pair, who work at the centre, will complete the charity walk. Last year the women raised almost €15,000 for the centre, which provides 2,000 meals and 500 food parcels to people in need every week.
Founded by Br Kevin Crowley in the early 1970s, the Capuchin Centre needs to raise in the region of 250,000 euro a year for food. The women are encouraging anyone who lives along the route to support them and walk with them.
