US: A woman's place isn't in a long line for the ladies', Michael Bloomberg, the New York mayor, said on Monday before signing the so-called "potty parity bill" at City Hall.
The popular potty parity legislation will require new public buildings - such as movie theatres, stadiums and bars - and those undergoing major renovations to install twice the number of toilets for women as for men.
"This bill brings parity to restrooms across the city, which will speed women through bathrooms and reduce waiting-around time for their male companions, which is where I come in," Mr Bloomberg said.
Paulette Geanacopoulos, the executive director of the Women's City Club of New York, hailed the measure.
"This is a major health bill," she said. "It is something that is clearly important to ... any of us who have waited for 25 minutes to get into a restroom." - (LA Times/ Washinton Post)
