ABBOTT VASCULAR and Cavan County Council scooped the top two awards at last night’s O2 Ability Awards, which took place at Kilmainham Hospital in Dublin.
The awards, now in their fourth year, showcase organisations that champion change in the area of disability at work and in wider society.
Abbott Vascular won the private sector category, while Cavan County Council was the non-private sector overall winner.
The award for best small company went to Kernan’s Eurospar in Donegal.
Category winners included McDonald’s in Ennis, EMC, Citi, Dublin City Public Libraries and Medtronic.
Danuta Grey, chief executive of Telefónica O2 Ireland, said it was inspiring to see the diversity of companies winning the awards.
“These are the organisations and business leaders that truly think and act differently, raising awareness, promoting leadership and encouraging best practice,” she said
Caroline Casey, founder of Kanchi, which runs the O2 Ability Awards, said: “When people are recognised for what they can offer or contribute, they are valued and respected and, in the current economic climate, recognising ability in business is more important than ever.”
