London - A three-year inquiry into allegations of sex offences at a nursery in Britain has revealed widespread abuse of young children "inside and outside the nursery by staff", a report said yesterday. Child experts said the Newcastle nursery appeared to be run more for the staff's benefit than for the children. The independent report concluded that more than 60 children were abused "inside and outside" the nursery.
The inquiry was ordered after two nurses, Mr Christopher Lillie and Ms Dawn Reed, were charged in 1993 with indecency against children from the nursery but walked free from court a year later after the trial judge ruled the video evidence of one alleged victim was inadmissible.
