A Tyrone man charged with murdering and raping his estranged wife was described as "an established liar" on the second last day of a murder trial at Enniskillen Crown Court.

Prosecution counsel Mr Gordon Kerr QC told the jury Mr Anthony Conlon was an accomplished liar who tried to hide the fact that he raped and murdered his wife and hid her body in a stream.

Mr Conlon, with an address at Clonmore Gardens, Omagh, is accused of raping and murdering his wife, Fiona, near her Ballysaggart Park home in Dungannon on March 3rd to 4th last year.

Mr Kerr said there was clear medical and legal evidence to back his proposition that Mr Conlon raped and murdered his wife and mother of his two children. He said the defence was not contesting the basic facts that Mr Conlon stabbed and killed his wife.
