These days, she might be better known for Marlene on the Wall and Luka, but Suzanne Vega has a lot more to offer than her fuzzily-remembered hit singles of the 1980s.
A graduate of the New York School of Performing Arts, Vega was initially a dancer and actress. (She auditioned for the central role in Desperately Seeking Susan, but was discounted for being too tranquil!)
She signed to A&M in the mid-1980s and was instantly bracketed as a sensitive singer/songwriter. A regular visitor to Ireland, this time around she plans to perform new material and read out extracts from her poetry book (not as awful as it sounds, by the way). She plays two nights at Dublin's HQ next Tuesday and Wednesday.
