THE HEALTH Service Executive (HSE) says it has implemented all of the recommendations of a Health Information and Quality Authority (Hiqa) report into its operation of a nursing home in Co Meath.
An authority inspection of St Joseph’s Community Nursing Unit in Trim last September listed 25 areas the HSE had to address to meet nursing home regulations. These included the handling of complaints of abuse in the home.
At the time there were 147 residents there.
Hiqa this week published the findings of an unannounced follow-up visit carried out on February 10th. It reported “four incidences of physical assault by one resident to other residents had not been investigated or acted upon in an appropriate manner by the person in charge. Only one of the cases had been notified to the chief inspector.”
The report stated: “Inspectors identified a number of shortcomings with regard to the management of complaints and the notifications of incidences to the chief inspector. The provider was required to submit an urgent action plan addressing these issues.
“All three action plans were received within the requested timeframe.”
The HSE yesterday said that after the first inspection, “detailed action plans were developed” and the follow-up inspection found “that many of the action plans had been fully or partially addressed”.
A spokeswoman for the executive said it was “pleased to report that all the actions have now been fully addressed, including the actions which were ongoing at the time of the follow-up inspection”.
