A cousin of Sein Fein president Mr Gerry Adams lost an appeal yesterday against a decision not to prosecute RUC officers alleged to have beaten him up.
Mr David Adams (42), from Bunbeg Park, Belfast, was awarded £30,000 compensation in 1998 after a judge held that police had been guilty of "illegal behaviour". But after an investigation supervised by the Independent Commission for Police Complaints, the DPP decided not to prosecute on grounds there was insufficient evidence.
Mr Adams received his injuries in 1994 when police foiled an IRA attempt to murder a senior detective. He was later jailed for 25 years and has since been freed.
