The Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind charity is seeking puppy-workers who would "adopt" a puppy for a year and rear it. As part of a five-year development drive the organisation is also seeking to build a residential centre at its kennels in Cork where people, who are learning to handle their dog, may stay.
"We have just completed construction of one of the most modern kennels in Europe," said Mr Michael Edmonds, general manager of dog and puppy training. The charity and the dogs are moving into the Cork kennel this weekend.
The kennels cost £500,000 to build and Mr Edmonds estimates the residential centre would cost a similar amount.
An open evening is being held in the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire, on Monday, with information on be coming a puppy-worker. The evening, at which dogs are welcome, begins at 8 p.m. and refreshments will be served.
