The Adopted People's Association (APA) has criticised the decision of Minister of State Mr Brian Lenihan not to appoint an adopted person to incoming the board of the association.

Speaking today, APA chairman Mr Anton Sweeney, branded the Minister of State's decision "unacceptable".

"This is akin to failing to appoint a single woman to sit on the Commission for the Status of Women, or disabled people being excluded from the Commission for the Status of People with Disabilities," he said.

Mr Sweeney said the association had repeatedly approached Mr Lenihan, in his role as Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, to make him aware of the problems their members faced when dealing with the APA board.
