Passengers booked to travel on one of the three vessels taken out of service by Irish Ferries yesterday are being offered a choice of full refunds or places on alternative services.

The three services temporarily withdrawn are:

MV Isle of Inishmore between Rosslare and Pembroke;

HSC Jonathan Swift between Dublin and Holyhead;

MV Normandy between Rosslare and Cherbourg.

Some passengers are being transferred to the company's remaining service, the MV Ulysses between Dublin and Holyhead, which is unaffected by yesterday's action.

This service could be disrupted by industrial action by the end of next week, however, if the dispute is not resolved. Other passengers are being accommodated on services operated by the company's competitors. Those seeking refunds will be given back the cost of their tickets "without quibble", a company spokesman said.

Intending passengers are being advised to telephone the company at 0818 300 400. Information is also available from its website, www.irishferries.com
