Aer Lingus pilots are today waiting to be told to begin industrial action over compulsory redundancies at the airline.
Balloting of IMPACT union members, totalling 540 pilots, is due to finish in the middle of next week.
A total of 300 Aer Lingus pilots have already cast their vote, according to IMPACT, and the union has said a "significant majority" of these are in favour of strike action.
IMPACT spokesman Mr Bernard Harbor told ireland.comits members were considering strike action because of the airline's decision to let go of 80 pilots. Aer Lingus has already issued compulsory redundancy notice to ten people, he said.
Mr Harbor said should the protest go ahead, the most likely action would be a series of one-day strikes starting next month.
