Aer Lingus has been commended for removing a clause in its medical information sheet that was regarded as offensive by disabled people who are planning to travel. The specific section contained the inquiry "is the patient's condition likely to be a source of discomfort to other passengers (odour, appearance, conduct)."

The matter was raised with Aer Lingus by the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities which is due to present its report to the Government in April.

Mr Frank Mulcahy, a member of the commission, said "Ordinary travellers do not have to answer offensive questions when they are booking their flights. Nor should people with disabilities. It is as simple as that. Aer Lingus personnel immediately agreed to delete the clause when we drew their attention to it".
