Afghanistan’s defence minister has survived an assassination attempt that killed four people and wounded 18.

Afghanistan’s defence minister has survived an assassination attempt that killed four people and wounded 18.

A Defence Ministry official said the blast in the eastern city of Jalalabad this morning was meant to kill Mr Mohammad Fahim. "He's [Mr Fahim] safe and alive".

"The bomb was placed in a kiosk in the center of Jalalabad. Four civilians were killed while 18 have been wounded," the official said.
