Nairobi - A bush fire has killed 47 people in a region of south-west Sudan already hit by famine, the aid agency World Vision reported yesterday.
The fire started on Sunday near the village of Ananatak, in a swamp in Bahr el-Ghazal province. People had gone there in search of water when a windstorm fanned the small fires lit by farmers. Aid officials say hundreds of thousands of people in Bahr el-Ghazal face one of the worst famines in Sudan as a result of civil war and drought.
