The Taxi Advisory Committee of the four Dublin local authorities yesterday agreed on the number of new taxi plates to be introduced in the Greater Dublin Area. The deal, which has taken 18 months to negotiate, provides for 200 new plates at a cost of £15,000 each, payable over two years. The agreement now goes before the individual authorities for approval. If accepted, it will end the spectre of different licensing authorities with separate taxi metre ar operating in Dublin simultaneously.
The deal also provides for a renewable fee of £450 ever two years, a transfer fee of £15,000 and a requirement for new taxis to meet specifications for wheelchairs.
