The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors has rejected an application by gardaí from the southeast for the addresses of convicted paedophiles to be made public.
Gardaí from Cos Wicklow and Wexford had asked for the Minister for Justice, Mr McDowell, to be requested to inform people of sex offenders living within their communities.
However, this was rejected by the AGSI at their conference in Cork today. The AGSI said there was a risk of vigilante attacks on paedophiles if there whereabouts were exposed.
