The bank is to establish a Polish service desk at its call centre and will employ Polish-speaking staff in 12 branches.

It is also planning on introducing a Polish option on its online international payments service.

Data published in September showed 17 per cent of the estimated 70,000 immigrants who arrived in Ireland in the year to April 2005 were Polish, and AIB estimates there are now 120,000 Poles in Ireland out of a total population of about four million.
