The twin-engined aircraft that forced the closure of Cork Airport for a time on Monday after its nose-wheel collapsed on landing was involved in two incidents at the same airport.
The Piper PA-34-200T Seneca II twin-prop aircraft crash-landed during a training detail at about 3pm but came to a safe stop at the junction of the airport’s two runways.
The airport was closed for about 30 minutes, forcing one inbound flight to divert to Shannon.
Two officials from the Air Accident Investigation Unit of the Department of Transport travelled to Cork yesterday to examine the aircraft.
It emerged that the same aircraft, with the registration EI-CMT, was at the centre of two previous inquiries by the unit, both following incidents at Cork Airport.
On March 3rd 2007, the plane skidded off the runway at Cork after completing a training detail.
