The Equality Authority has rejected a claim by Ryanair that it was singled out in a case alleging ageism in a job ad, writes Carol Coulter. "Ryanair's use of the word `young' resulted in them interviewing candidates in their 20s and 30s only," the authority said.
On the airline's allegation that it was singled out while The Irish Times, which published the ad, was ignored, the authority said: "The Irish Times took immediate remedial action. It was the refusal of Ryanair to engage in the offer of remedial action that left us with no option other than to bring a case. Our success is testimony that this was the correct course of action to pursue."
