AIRTRICITY IS to increase the price of its domestic gas and electricity in a move that will add nearly €120 to the annual fuel bill of many of its customers.
Its gas prices will go up 8.5 per cent and electricity by 4.7 per cent from October 15th. The increase will see the average weekly cost of its electricity rise by 96 cent and its gas rise by €1.33, taking the annual total to €119.
The company blamed “sustained and considerable increases in the costs of using the gas and electricity transmission and distribution networks regulated by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER), as well as the continued weakening of the euro against sterling”. It said that to minimise the impact of price increases on “vulnerable customers most affected by the current difficult economic climate” it would not increase prices “at this time” for those on prepayment meters. About 370,000 domestic electricity customers and about 110,000 domestic gas customers will be affected.
