Airticity has signed an agreement with Musgraves to provide green electricity to its depots and sites around the island of Ireland.
The deal is worth about €25 million to the energy company, and is said to be the largest all-island green electricity deal of its kind.
It will include sites both north and south of the border. The Musgrave Group includes SuperValu, Centra and Daybreak stores in the Republic of Ireland and SuperValu, Centra and Mace stores in Northern Ireland.
The use of Airtricity?s green electricity will allow Musgrave displace more than 130,000 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to removing more than 60,000 cars from Irish roads every year.
?Mitigating climate change impacts and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels are crucial sustainability issues,? said Musgrave?s environmental executive John Curran.
?As well as lowering emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, this agreement with Airtricity will also result in reduced energy costs for Musgrave and our retail partners and underscores the value of continuing to focus on driving our sustainability strategy even in times of recession.?
