Job losses are expected to be announced today at telecoms giant Alcatel-Lucent's operations in Ireland.
The company - which has three plants in the country - said last week it is to lay off 12,500 staff worldwide.
Management is to meet with more than 400 employees this afternoon at their offices in Blanchardstown and Citywest in Dublin, as well as Cork.
A company spokeswoman said more details would be released after workers were told about the extent of the expected redundancies.
The latest blow comes amid a spate of job losses.
Last week, Pfizer revealed 545 jobs were under threat, bringing to over 1,400 the number of possible job losses announced in recent weeks.
Fine Gael Enterprise, Trade and Employment spokesman Phil Hogan called for an all-party debate on the rising cost of doing business in Ireland.
"Ireland has managed to sustain significant economic growth by attracting foreign investment, but the sequence of high-profile job losses in various multinational companies is a worrying trend.
"It has become common practice for many high-profile companies to engage in global rationalisation as a code word for moving jobs from Ireland's high cost base," Mr Hogan said.
