A suspect package addressed to the Taoiseach has been declared harmless by gardaí.

The envelope, which was posted in Italy, aroused suspicions when found by An Post staff at its sorting office in Nangor Road, Clondalkin.

It was then transferred to the larger sorting office in Santry, which has high-tech scanning equipment.

The Army bomb disposal unit was also called, but the package was found to be harmless.
