All five accused found guilty of Kieran Keane murder

A jury has this evening found all five men accused of the murder of limerick man Kieran Keane guilty.

A jury has this evening found all five men accused of the murder of limerick man Kieran Keane guilty.

The jury had spent two nights in a hotel and was on its third day of considering its verdict. Mr Keane (36), of Garryowen House, Garryowen, Limerick was murdered at Drombana, Bushy Island just outside the city on January 29th, 2003.

The jury has also found the men guilty of the attempted murder of Mr Owen Treacy (31), Mr Keane's nephew, on January 29th, 2003 and to falsely imprisoning him on the same date.

The five guilty men are: Mr David Stanners (31), Pineview Gardens, Moyross; Mr Desmond Dundon (20), Hyde Road, Limerick; Mr Anthony McCarthy (21), Fairgreen, Garryowen; Mr Christopher Costelloe (20), Moylish Avenue, Ballynanty Beg and Mr James McCarthy (24), Delmege Park, Moyross

They had pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Earlier today Mr Justice Paul Carney had said the jury could return verdicts of 10-2 or 11-1 although majority verdicts were still desirable.
