THE Government faces a new dispute in the health service following an overwhelming vote in favour of strike action by provincial ambulance drivers. Members of SIPTU employed as regional ambulance workers voted by 95 per cent for strike action by more than 500 drivers over a long-standing pay claim against the Department of Health.

The result of the ballot will now be referred to the executive officers of the union with an application for sanction to strike. A strike could begin as early as April 10th.
