Amnesty International will today unveil its own fair-trade chocolate in Dublin.
Amnesty says the fair-trade organic cocoa in its chocolate is from El Cebio Co-operative in Bolivia, to which more than 700 farmers belong.
"The raw cane sugar used in the milk chocolate is from Alter Trade in the Philippines," Amnesty said. "Alter Trade began in 1986 with the aim to ensure farmers' work and land rights are fulfilled.
"The sugar in the extra dark chocolate is from a fair-trade supplier Otisa in Paraguay that works to improve the living standards of the 440 affiliated farmers."
Although the ingredients are blended by Maitres Swiss Chocolatiers, one of the aims of the project is to build the capacity of farmers so that eventually they are exporting finished products.
The move comes amid the city's Fair Trade Fortnight, aimed at highlighting efforts to support producers in developing nations.
