An Post yesterday invited members of the public to submit a postcard of his or her own design as it launched a project to create Ireland's biggest-ever art exhibition.

Entitled C Both Sides, the project asks people of all ages from Ireland and worldwide to create and post designs of any sort between now and December 8th, 2008. A selection of the postcards will then tour Ireland for 12 months.

An earlier exhibition curated by artists Teresa Doyle and Edel O'Reilly Flynn and funded by Westmeath County Council served as the inspiration for the project.

"In the era of the text message, e-cards and the soundbite, this project seeks to celebrate the art of postcard communication and encourage the skill of handwriting," said An Post chief executive Donal Connell.

Postcards can be designed with the help of a computer or handmade. Words should be in English, and people are encouraged to use both sides of postcards.

Multiple designs can be submitted, but all must be individually stamped and posted to: An Post C Both Sides, PO Box 2009, Dublin 2. Further details are available at www.anpostcbothsides.ie
