Customers of An Post can start sending letters from today as the company begins the process of unsealing around 900 post boxes in Dublin.
A company spokeswoman said people will start to find an increased amount of mail arriving through their doors from tomorrow onwards as An Post sorts through the large backlog of unprocessed mail.
Post boxes in Drogheda, which have been sealed since mid-February because of an unofficial dispute, will be unsealed tomorrow.
An Post hopes most services will be back to normal by the end of the week or early next week. While the dispute with the Communications Workers Union (CWU) was in progress, all incoming international mail was held abroad and that is estimated it will take up to two weeks to process.
An Post is directly dealing with large companies and corporations so their individual postal needs can be met. The spokeswoman added the GPO had been busier today.
Tomorrow, An Post and the CWU will meet at the Labour Relations Commission to begin talks on the future of the company.
