The three men convicted in connection with the death of teenager Brian Murphy outside Club Anabel in Dublin four years ago are all anxious to speed up their appeal, the Court of Criminal Appeal heard today.
Mackey: anxious to have his appeal progressed
Mr Justice Geoghan said everything would be done to hear the cases of Dermot Laide from Castleblayney, County Monaghan, Desmond Ryan from Dalkey, County Dublin and Sean Mackey from Foxrock, County Dublin.
All three men were convicted last March in the Circuit Criminal Court of violent disorder in connection with the death of Brian Murphy in August 2000.
Ryan received a nine-month sentence, Mackey received a two-year sentence and Laide who was also convicted of manslaughter, received a four year sentence.
Justice Geoghan set a date of November 23 for mention of the cases of Ryan and Laide.
He told Ms Orla Crowe, junior counsel for Mackey, that he could not believe her client had asked for an adjournment of his appeal hearing in July.
Ms Crowe said that it had been due to the publication of an article about the case in a newspaper.
"Mr Mackey is in custody... we are anxious to have it progressed. It will take no more than one hour to an hour-and-a-half," she said.
Justice Geoghan set the date of Mackey's appeal hearing for November 15th.
The trial of the men in connection with the death of Brian Murphy ran for 34 days and included 100 witnesses, 47 of whom saw the fatal incident in which Murphy was kicked and beaten to death.
None of the convicted men appeared in court today.
