Leading international animal rights campaigners are to address a public meeting in Dublin this evening to encourage people to be more vocal in their opposition to animal cruelty
The meeting, hosted by the Alliance for Animal Rights (AFAR), will see speakers from several grassroots animal liberation movements discussing a wide range of issues.
Among those speaking will be renowned animal rights activist Tom Regan, professor of philosophy at North Carolina State Universit, and Robin Webb of Britain's Animal Liberation Front (ALF).
Dr Steven Best, associate professor and chair of philosophy at University of Texas, and Mary Brady, founder of Readfood, a vegan campaigning group will also address the meeting.
According to Bernie Wright, the spokeswoman for AFAR, tonight's meeting has been set up to encourage Irish people to become more vocal in their opposition to animal cruelty. She said people in Ireland were too "laid back" when it came to animal rights and added that "it would be good to see more becoming involved in the movement."
She also expressed her hope that the meeting would contributing to "the growing international movement in support of animal rights."
